Praying through 1 Peter: Thursday

  • Pray that we would arm ourselves with a mindset to suffer, just as our Savior and King suffered (4:1-2)
  • Pray that our lives in this world would not be marked by the same sinful lusts that characterize those who do not know Jesus (4:3-6); that we would not be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2), even while living excellent lives among those who are not believers (1 Peter 2:11-12).
  • Pray for self-control and sober-mindedness that flows from knowing that the return of Jesus is imminent (4:7).
  • Pray that, above all, we would love one another earnestly and be a welcoming people (4:8-9)
  • Pray that the whole Body would be effective in serving others with the unique gifts that God has given to us all, and that we would serve in a way that shows that God is our strength, so that He would be glorified in all things (4:10-11)
  • Also praise God for those in our congregation who do serve faithfully, without receiving much thanks or recognition: nursery workers, greeters, tech support, grounds and building maintenance, etc.
  • Pray that we would have the spiritual strength to rejoice in suffering, entrusting our souls to a faithful God, knowing that as we share in Christ's sufferings, we will also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed (4:12-19)
